How To Extend The Life of Your Roof

Most roofs last many years if properly installed and maintained; however, no matter how well maintained, at some point your roof will need to be replaced. Regular maintenance ensures that it will stay strong and keep your family safe, dry, and comfortable for many, many years.

Replacing your roof is one of the most expensive things you're ever going to have to do as a homeowner. A close inspection can help reveal problems before they can cause serious and costly damage.

Whether your roof is new or old, here’s what you need to do to keep it in the best possible shape for the longest possible time.

*Clean the gutters.Cleaning the gutters is the most impportant to do. It should be done, at very least every season, and more often if your house is close to trees, to help prevent damage to your landscaping and siding, and to avoid expensive repairs.

*Inspect your attic. An accurate inspection of a home’s attic is an essential addition to the roof inspection.Make sure that the attic insulation is properly installed with the required level. Warm air leaking into the attic during the cold winter months is the primary cause for most ice dams that form.

*Walk around the perimeter of your home to make sure there are no loose objects that could cause damage to your roof in the event of strong winds or a heavy rainstorm. Cut all dead or broken branches from nearby trees and trim them away from the home.

*Roof cleaning is especially important. It can quickly bring back the beauty of your home. Remove all loose materials from the roof, including leaves, branches, or stray Frisbees. It is also impotant during rainy season. The growth of moss, algae and fungus lichens can damage yourroof and the sheathing below and is usually expensive to repair.

If you need professional advice, or if you’ve encountered a roofing problem that’s beyond your ability to repair, you can trust a Salt Lake City Roofers to provide reliable and affordable services for your home roofing repair.
